| ST90/CT70 question...doopsx3, etc.?
1. It's been a long time since I've gotten close to an ST90, but from looking at pictures the frames look the same between the ST90s and CT70s. _True _False 2. Further studying of pictures gets me thinking that an ST90 swingarm looks quite a bit like a twin-shock XR75/80 swingarm, and that it appears to mount outside the frame instead of inside like a CT70 swingarm does. This makes me think a person could make up a stout tubing spacer to fill the area inside the frame where the CT swingarm would go and put the longer, tubular, probably stronger XR-type swingarm outside the frame at this point, if the widths and pivot diameters were compatible. Yes? No? Comments? I'm thinking of this because I have a non-running CT70 with an H motor in it sitting in my garage and CT70 mania has not hit me yet. But I've always thought ST90s were cool-looking. And I notice there are an awful lot more parts options for the 50/70 type engines than the old 90/110/125M ones. Since there are only about 12 running ST90s still on the planet but 19 million CT70s, wouldn't it make sense to do a ST-style restomod to a CT70? Please help me focus my thoughts. I want to help that bike rejoin the world of running transportation. But do I want a stock CT70? Or do I want a wild-eyed, free-wheeling explosion of manic experimental energy, with no safety net? This I do not know. Vaya con huevos (That'd be "go with eggs.") |

#1. yes..me thinks the ST90 is slightly larger #2. yes....I have converted my ST90 'Tard project to using the Ebay mono swinger for a CRF50 Major rework of engine mounting area to get a 50/70 Honda style engine to bolt up...I have reworked mine and currently have a Lifan 138 installed...was originally going to use a ATC 125m (estart) but did not due to excess weight of engine......I still have a stock CT90 roller if ya need anymore info..... yes I travel with both my eggs daily |

If you have a regular ct70 frame to start with, you can use honda CL70 fork trees and install sl70 forks right in it with the 14" skinny wheel if you need. I have a set of the fork trees if you need em.

Just found on the honda-dax dot com site: "A small role on stage in 1972 was for the ST90, the big brother of the dax which was also called "mighty dax" The ST90 was equiped with a strong 90cc engine also called "fat harry" and a bigger and stronger frame than the dax. It had 14" wheels and was only sold in the US. Unfortunately It didn't last long and after 3 years Honda stopped the production of the ST90." Fatcaaat, I appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind. I'm thinking ahead of my budget and the current state of affairs in my garage on this ST/CT thing, but if you'd shoot me a PM when you get a chance I'd like to hear more about these CL trees. |

I keep seeing these older 80cc MX bikes with blowed-up motors on Craigslist, making me envision a front end off a CR/RM/YZ/KX on there, but with some dual-sport or street tire. But I don't know the steering stem dimensions on 80cc MX bikes, or if they're even the same between themselves, and this CL triple-clamp thing sounds promising. | |

I wonder if ST90 triples and forks will fit on a CT70.

Lookit that hotrod BBQ grill. Wow. Hey, that bike's in the way. Can we get a shot of just the grill? That bike is looking cool, doopsx3; it's more modern-era trick-looking than what I'm envisioning for mine but it's a really cool idea you've got there. |
