My Mood: | ST90 MOTARD project thread
Well some people asked me to start a build tread for my ST90/Lifan 138 'tard project so, I have been taken pictures as I go and will start uploading when I can. My idea for this project is to use a Lifan 138 that I got from Dan Crower of Crower performance. He warmed it over a bit with porting, cam, and a hi-squeezer so we shall see. I have got TT92's for it and plan on putting 2 SDG exhaust cans on it ala Ducati 996 style. I also plan on using the stock ST90 air filter assembly but I will be fabbing up a ram air system for it. Disc brakes front and rear and some type of mono shock and either FASTACE AS02's or some Pitster X4 forks..(have yet to decide)...well it is coming along so I will post the pics I got and I am also open to suggestions.....I am not a welder so plz do not laugh too much....

The shock setup in back worries me... it looks like it will be a falling rate setup, ie the more you compress it, the easier it gets to compress. If the shock has enough travel, it could end up getting to a point where it'll suddenly try and pick the swingarm up and hold it up once the lower mount moves far enough forward. What you want to do is try and lay the shock down more. If you can find someone who can weld aluminum, you could have it be an asymetrical setup like the Kawi ER-6n, shock mounted on the left side of the frame, bolting to the left side of the swingarm. No idea if the swingarm has enough torsion resistance to work that way or not?

Ah, that looks better. Does it rub the frame when you compress it?

naahh I opened it up enough later after that pic was taken.....yeah, those 1st pics the bike still did not have the cut-out in the back splash so the shock would sit right...it was a pure balacing mock up.just to get an idea.......but I think the way it sits now will work without the shock trying to go under itself (so to speak) | |

XR, XL, and some ST's had Spoked wheels if I am not mistaken. They should be pretty much bolt on. If I was going with spoked wheels on a budget, I would run a CRF70 front end(triples, forks, wheel, brake, & axle), and XL70/XR80 Rear end(swing arm, shocks, brake rod, brake, and wheel). You could throw the whole setup on a Z50, and it is a completely bolt on Spoked wheel setup that will raise your bike and extend your wheel base.
