| Strange leak
I am trying to get an 82 z50r running but I have a strange leak problem My carb is leaking from where the fuel line hooks to the carb. I have cleaned the crap out of it. I have brand new hoses. I have NO idea how it could be leakin from here. It isn't a little drip either. It is coming right out. any ideas? OH and while I am at it. Where does the hose facing the front of the bike rout to? I can't seem to find a pic of where it may go. Thanks!!!!!!!!! |

What do you mean hose facing the front of the bike?????? Coming out of the carb? The fuel inlet on the carb is facing the front on a downward angle. Brass nipple. Hoses??? There should only be one. Petcock to carb.

I have two brass nipples on the carb. One down by the float on the left side of the bike (if you are sitting on the bike) and one in the right front. The one on the bottom is leaking. I have no idea why. I don't know what the top right one is for. |

The one that gas is coming from is the float bowl overflow. The float is too high hence the overflow. Adjust it lower. Bend the small brass tab that pushes up on the needle valve up just abit at a time till it stops leaking.

i think he means that the fuel inlet nipple is leaking in that area if it is all tight, the inlet nipple might be cracked around the bottom or something. dont know how to test for that, but im sure theres a way if visual inspection checks out |

Well there is only two so.....you could be right. I have seen the older stock carbs crack at the base where the brass fitting is inserted into the carb body. If so, what is the nipple above????? That has to be the inlet! So confused. LOL!

Your fule line should run into the nipple at the top of the carburetor. The one at the bottom is a drain for the float bowl.

Ok I did have it backwards. It is leaking out of the hose that is going down to the ground from the float. I have that screw by it tightened all the way in but it is still leaking. (not as much as out obviously) Is there an o-ring or something in there that could be worn? this bike is all original as far as I know. Thanks arlindsay1992 for the pics!!!! |

like razzo said your float inside the carb is set too high. you need to remove your carb and take the bowl off of the bottom of it. there is a little plastic float that when the bowl is ful of fuel raises and shuts the fuel off. where the float connects to the body of the carb there is a needle that it pushes in when the float is raised. the little tab that pushes the needle in has to bent up toward the needle just a little bit to raise the float level. once you have done this put the carb back together and onto the bike and turn the gas on. if it is still leaking then you need to redo the whole process again until it stops leaking. hope this is detailed enough its really not that hard once yo get inside the carb and see what im talk about. good luck |

Does the Float needle stop the gas from coming into the float bowl. Mine was missing ( got a rebuild kit and had no clue what this little needl thing was!) I am hoping I put it in the right place. Does the pointed part go up or down? My tab is plastic - not metal so I can't bend it (get a metal one?) Damn thing is still leaking all over the place. |

This is your PROBLEM. I had the same problem. Take the bowl of the CARB and there should be a black gasket going all the way around the bowl. It isn't placed in there right. It needs to be perfectly flat. I know what you mean... |
