stroker crank install clearance issue with TB88cc big bore kit

Hello, got a 70 HKO 4 speed CT70 that I have a DRATV stroker crank and I assumed the TB88 big bore kit would work. Well the piston hits the crank. Does anyone know the correct pistion to use with this set up? thanks DB

Double check that it's the right height at the top of the stroke first, and file the skirt until it clears.

This might be a dumb question, but I want to be sure.. when you say check the height at the top of the stroke, do you mean does the piston protrude from the cylinder?

Yep, just making sure it's right on at least one end

I bet you bought this; http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...1991_230976266

This is the correct piston, but you will need to trim it a bit at the bottom to make it clear the crank. And when you do, make sure there are absolutely no sharp edges or you are going to score your cylinder.

If you have the TB88cc piston, you have the wrong piston. It may be interesting to note: Take your old piston and your new piston and put them together using one wrist pin and take a picture and post it. If you are using a tb88 piston, you are going to notice something quite wrong.

Re: stroker crank install clearance issue with TB88cc big bore kit

Well, on the top end, the piston looks to be OK. I can just catch my fingernail with no base gasket in place. So this end should be OK. I don't have an old piston to compare to, so I guess this is out. I started to grind the bottom end skirt area with a dremel and barrel sander. It looks as if I will have to take a lot off the skirt area and the area under the pin.

fatcaaat, which piston do I need? The 100042 from dr atv looks like the one in your pic.

You need the piston in this kit 88CC_CYLINDER_KIT ALLOY_CYLINDER ATC70_ALL_YEARS CT70_TO_1981 ALL_SL_XL_TRX70'S but I am not sure that dratv sells it seperately or not anymore. If you notice, it is already cut to clear that dratv crank. Best to just email him, ask him for the correct piston for your situation and he'll set you up.

thats good, I just ordered the 100042 piston, along with a bunch of other stuff. I can never just order 1 thing from that place....I will still have to trim this piston to clear? I hope it won't have to be that much...

Dratv has a piston that you should not have to Trim. That is why I said you should email him.

That's because he knows you. For the majority of the people asking questions they get a canned response.

Seeing how he answers you why not do that guy a favor and see if he ordered the correct piston....

You've seen how many people ask the same basic questions over and over and over on here, even though the info has been posted before... take a wild guess how many questions they must get. I don't blame them in the least.

In their defense, just about all the info you'd need about their products is posted on the site.

Yes you'll still need to trim the corner bits of the skirt, but it is only a tiny amount.

There's the ideal answer/advice for you.

Hey Kurlon,
maybe you would be willing to eat this piston for this guy so he can buy the correct one?

as he didn't get the help over here he needed either..... Im just speaking in his defence.

I deleted my previous post thought this may be a better answer....

Re: stroker crank install clearance issue with TB88cc big bore kit

52MM_STROKER_CRANK (SHORT_ROD) (CT70'S_CHECK_APP.) (ATC70_1978_TO_1985) (200002) says right in here:

ONE--YOU MUST HAVE A PISTON WITH TRIMMED SKIRT OR YOU MUST TRIM THE PISTON SKIRT SO IT WILL CLEAR THE CRANK WEIGHTS WHEN IT IS IN THE DOWN POSITION. OUR 85CC AND 88CC CYLINDER KITS HAVE THE TRIMMED PISTON SKIRTS ALLREADY !!

The 52MM_PISTON_KIT (OLD_70_DOME) (SHORT_ROD) (SHORT_CYLINDER) (100042) piston is not the correct piston...it will work with modification, but it is not the correct piston for the application

The piston in this picture is the one you want: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1990_20739575 and it is only available in the kit form unless you specifically email him asking for this piston. It is not the one that we've been talking about...notice the trimmed skirt. I'd be surprised if he didn't respond for a sale but if he doesn't there isn't much I can do. Then again, maybe he doesn't sell this piston anymore!

The other place you can get it is in greece from Nick at mototrade.gr.
