| Throttle
I have a 1972 Z50 and the throttle is absolutely lousy. It has gobs of play and it does not even have enough spring tension to rotate or snap back to the idle position. I know the slack thing is solved by adjusting the cable length. The throttle cable has been lubed and is good. I looked at the rube-goldberg thing on the handlebar and that seems OK to.....ie, there is no resistance being created anywhere that I can see yet the throttle will not smartly snap back like one should. Should I stuff a bigger spring under there? Should I stretch the crap out of the stock spring? Have any of you seen a problem with this? |

One of the things I hope to get around to soon is a throttle replacement on my '71. Mine does return when you let it go, pretty much, but it's got a lot of slop. I think between that spiral internal groove in the grip, the slanted thing that slides in the groove, and about 12 other interactive surfaces in there it can look pretty good but build up lots of slop. There are throttle rebuild kits available with a new tube that the grip goes on, plus the internal parts in the handlebar, and I think they're about $30. Dr. ATV carries them and so does CHP racing in the Z50 or CT70 section. Or you could take all that stuff out and experiment with a modern throttle and a different cable. I can't quite bring myself to do that on my hardtail. Yet. I'm going to try the rebuild kit first, I think. |

mine doesn't return, wich could be a big problem! yes you can get a enw after market throttle to replace it, or in your case make one with something from another bike, at least from what i understand. the rebuild kit doesn't sound too bad.
