| Throttle problem
I have a 1974 Z50. My problem is that when you turn the throttle, it doesn't have any spring pressure to return it to idle. Anybody got any pictures or the microfiche diagrams because the book I have is no help. I don't think anything is missing, it looks to be all there. I just don't know if there is supposed to be anything else in the handle bar, if the cable is binding, or what. Thanks guys.

Make sure you have the spring in the carb lol, then nake sure the needle thing in the carb is as far down as it can go so it can move nice ly up and down.

Both are correct. I am just wondering about the cable. Is there supposed to be a sping in the bars to help return the cable back to idle? May be a dumb question but I don't know.

No, you may just need to clean the throttle out. Pull the grip off, and there will be a small screw near the brake lever on the throttle tube. Unscrew that and the rest is easy. You can get a new cable or try spraying lubricant inside the sheathing on the cable. Even with a 18mm carb on a newly cleaned throttle assembly with new cable, the throttle doesn't snap back very fast at all, nvm a stock carb. It's the nature of the beast. you can see a micro fiche of the parts at www.servicehonda.com It's a bit difficult to figure out how to find your bike and get the illustrations to come up. If you can't figure it out call them and they'll run you through it. |

You have the old fashioned type with a throttle slide inside the handlebars, and it isprobably all rusted up and preventing the cable and slide from returning to the closed position. HERE is a microfiche diagram of your handlebars. Parts #13 and 14 are inside the handlebar, I believe, with #14 being the cable attach point.

I think that I am just going to spent the $10 on a new cable and then buy the spring that goes in the carb. www.dratv.com is in my town so I'll just run down there. Had a 2001 over here the other day and rode it and the cable is much more free than mine. I know that they are a different style than mine but I've cleaned, lubed, and everything else and I think that it is just wore out. Thanks for the help guys. That servicehonda site is awesome. Maybe one of these days I'll get a chance to post some pics. It almost done but we are trying to finish it up before a bike show June 11. It's all painted with House of Kolor stuff with ghost flames. Every nut, bold and part has been polished like chrome; including the engine!!! Well, here is a teaser......
