Today's Progress

Spent sometime working on my son's '79 Z today. Bead blasted all the parts, that I hated, that were red previously and painted them a medium gray to match the powder coat on the wheels.

Also added the following:
New Tank
New Seat
New Chain & Sprockets
New Ignition cover
New Fork Boots (cleaned an re-greased the insides of the forks)

Replacement pipe coming courtesy of renyolds_brad. After that I think I am ready to turn it over to my boy. Then he can stop asking me 10 times a day, "Can I ride my bike now!"

Here is the bike when I purchased it.

Here is how it looks after today's labor.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have had more fun working on this bike than on the new ones. Might have to look for another one.

Is there any paint on the frame? If there isn't it will most definitly rust.

You know what, I have more fun with my Z than my other 50's, working on it and riding it.
Bring it, we'll have a Z50 race at the ride day in July.

The whole frame is powder coated.

Got the bike all put together and took it for a spin. To fun!!! I can not kick start the bike though. Does not feel like there is any compression. But, I can push start it with no problem. It has plenty of power, hauls my bike ass around. Those who know me, know what I mean "Fat guy on a little bike." I know th motor was gone through recently, but, there is nothing there when you try to kick start it. Is it possible to kick start shaft is worn?

I had the same issue with my ZB50. Wouldn't kick start but would jump easy. Alos, my 1st gear was bad. $457 later and it was fixed.

That is what I am afraid of. All though first pulls real strong and engages quickly.
