Transmission Interchange, Z50r - Crf50

I am working on a 1995 Z50r and it has a few bad transmission gears, The smallest gear on the input shaft(actually part of the shaft) and the large gear on the output shaft(I think it is 1st gear). I have a stock transmission from a newer Crf50. When I check the actual part numbers, they are different. Can I replace just the 2 bad gears with parts from the CRF50, or would I have to swap out the complete transmission?

Thanks, Gary

If it was me, i would swap out the whole transmission.... If you just swap out the gears they might not mesh right if the gear ratios are different on each transmission. It's just to be safe, cause those things are a bitch to tear down again if u screw up.

Do you know if it is a straight up swap if I use the complete trans? Aren't the Z50's shift pattern 3 down, where as the CRF50 is 3 up? Will that cause any problems? I do have the shift drum, and forks for the CRF. I guess I would use that also?

Re: Transmission Interchange, Z50r - Crf50

Since you have access to a complete CRF trans cluster, including the shift drum and forks, just drop the whole assembly right into place. If you're used to the 3-down shift sequence, just swap the drum/forks, and keep the 3-down shift pattern with the CRF trans. Should you use the CRF trans, you will need a CRF-style sprocket, the splines on the countershaft are different.
