What is the best transmission to get for everyday riding? I would like the bike to top out around 70 an cruise 55-60mph. Brian

I have two of the Takegawas 5 speed transimisions,S/Touring Close Ratio and the Super Close ratio. The super close its more "aggresive"for the street, its better for circuit use.The s/touring its more friendly for everyday.I believe the s/touring is better for you.Depends always your engine. Or even better and cheaper is the 4 speed close ratio.... | |

as magic said, out of the take' 5speeds the super touring is the most popular and will also give the highest speed (touring 5th gear) the honda monkey 4 speed gearbox also isn't bad for cruising (when you compare the cost of the two either way you'll need a good running 106 to achieve those speeds |

And you can probably forget doing much below about 15 or 20 mph if you're geared to reach those speeds, sprocket-wise. Not sure what bike you're talking about doing this with, but geared to get anywhere near that kind of speed any practical dirt or trail use just went out the window.

My Mood: | Re: Transmissions Mostly depends what cam you are going to use and the rev limit you will set.the bigger is the cam the closest ratio you should use, otherwise in each gear you'll change on a big cam (ex.S-35)you'll drop many revs.If you dont want to spend a lot of money, the cheapest and safer is the 4 speed stock monkey. Its a good transmision.Otherwise a 4 speed Take.More money :5 speed.
