Vavle Guides

Anyone know how to remove the valve guides out of the head?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Vavle Guides

AH ok thanks for the info. I wanted to take them out so I could soak the cylinder head in carb cleaner but I think I might just leave them alone now. It might be hard to get them re-seated.

Thanks
Mike

Hmm I wounder if I could just leave them in there and soak the head in carb cleaner? Would liquid even get to the seals

I am referring to the o-ring that goes under the valve guide

Hey ya that's what I was thinking and there really reamed in there good. It makes me wonder thou why they are there in the first place if there not sealing anything out. My carb cleaner might be weak I think since it says it cleans PVC also so It might be ok.

Any other insight on this from anyone would be great

Re: Vavle Guides

If the guides did come out, it would likely damage them. And even if not, you'd need to do a valve job, since the guide isn't likely dead-nutz centered.

Re: Vavle Guides

Nope I never took them out or did a valve job (grinding) so I guess the guides are still centered and ID to 5.5m. All that is left on the head now are Guides and O-rings under the valve guide. It's just a old head I am looking to get rid of carbon and crap off it. I might put a old O-ring in the cleaner and see if it eats it or not

Re: Vavle Guides

i'd be surprised if it does. unless the o-ring is already degrading.
