VIN decoding

i have a Z that i was restoring for a friend that became mine in trade for some other work i've done on some of his other bikes.. my question is... How do you decode the VIN to know for sure what model year the bike orginally was?

I remember apost on here a lONG time ago about it, but the search yielded nothing

Re: VIN decoding

Z50AK0 1968-69 Z50A-100001~
Z50AK1 1969-70 Z50A-120088~
Z50AK2 1970-71 Z50A-270236~
Z50AK3 1972 Z50A-1000001~
Z50AK4 1973 Z50A-3000001~
Z50AK5 1974 Z50A-5000001~
Z50AK6 1975 Z50A-6000001~
Z50A'76 1976 Z50A-6100001~
Z50A'77 1977 Z50A-6200003~
Z50A'78 1978 Z50A-6300003~

K0 thru '78 as listed on the CHP website.

Z50R'79 1979 AB02-5000009~
Z50R'80 1980 AB02-5100007~

From '81 and up, look at the 10th digit of the VIN. The letter in the 10th (counting left to right) digit tells you the "year model".

Let me know if you need clarification or additional information !

Resto

Re: VIN decoding

This is a .jpg file. I have a much more detailed Word Document I can e-mail to you if you want. It has all the information above and a lot more. It's got more information on Honda Z50s and stuff like that. If you want it, PM me your e-mail address.
