My Mood: | What is the trick to breaking the tire bead?
What is the trick to breaking the tire bead? I am trying to change the tube on the front tire and I can not get the bead to break loose. I have removed all the bolts. (I think that is my problem) I think I need to bolt the two halfs back together and then break the bead. Thanks |

If this is a CT70 wheel you have a few options. There is a thread about this already...so use the search to find it. If you are keeping the tire...break the bead with a vice then use heat on the rim...with a lot of sweat and cursing and wd40 it will eventually come off. If you are chucking the tire, cut the steel belts off right at the rim with a dremel, die grinder or a set of tin snips after wedging a screw driver under them. The tire will then fall right off. |

My Mood: | Re: What is the trick to breaking the tire bead? That's the method that works best for me, die-grinder to the bead and I start by cutting the tire with my wire snips so I can get at it from the inside.

this is whats worked well for me in the past and its relatively cheep and readily available at most hardware stores. Just lube the bead/rim area and clamp the tire with the clamp. |

I usually have to cut the tire down the center, leaving you with one half of the tire on one rim half, then i cut the wires in the bead with a mini grinder and bingo the tire half pops off, then replace with new tire and tube.
