I prefer the JDM 1995-2007 12V Z50J's from Japan. For the Vintage Models, My favorite is the 1967 Z50M for the world market, and for the US Market, I like the Z50AK2's since they had a rear foot brake. I currently do not own a hardtail. | |

| Re: Whats your favorite z50 year??? I am also partial to the 99 because i have one. But i have always loved the ones that i like to call "the monkey bikes". Not sure on the years, but soft tails about 69 through 78 i think? folding handle bars etc.

My top two are the '69 K0 in red/silver, and the '74 Z50 in Candy Topaz. |

| Re: Whats your favorite z50 year??? Soft tail Mini Trails were introduced as 1972 models, and were produced until 1978.

1979 Z50R. Tall bars, lighting coil, wider pegs, last year with larger brake drums, adjustable handlebars, and just as much aftermarket as the rest of the Z50R's. (Yes it's my favorite even though it looks nothing like a 1979.) |

There's no lighting coil on a '79 Z50R, the '78 Z50A had a lighting coil and a headlight. Last edited by dirtbkr188; 02-15-2008 at 08:49 AM. |

You sure? My 79 has one. No lights but it has the coil.

I like 1973 thru 1978. Nice little set up with the lights, rear suspension and folding handle bars.

Whoops. Sorry. Yeah, 1979 didn't have a lighting coil. I forgot I got the ignition parts from my spare 1976 motor. I've been swapping too much I can't keep track of it. 79 had the same plastic box connector as the previous years but only one wire I think. The previous years had the same box with all four wires present. The 1979 is still my favorite year though, I just don't have as many reasons to justify it. I've been off the bike and out of the garage too long. Three more weeks to go.

I like the 88- 99 Z50R's. CDI ignition (no points), 12 volt system, & three up trans. I like the red ones. But they don't compare to the 1988 ZB50. tmas |

| Re: Whats your favorite z50 year??? I can't get used to the three up. I nearly blew the motor on the 1988 I had. I would be at the top of second and press the shifter down and bam! 20k rpm. Probably not that much but way more than it was designed to spin at for sure. Of course, it does make sense. Pull up to upshift, click it down to downshift. But I learned to ride on a 1980 so it's habit. Yes CDI is a nice touch but I don't mind points. Once set, they are just as good as CDI. Out of the CDI years, 1989 is the best. Looked the best. Best graphics IMO and more red than the other years. I like red. When it's red I know I'm on a Honda.
