| Where have you guys mounted the huge Lifan 150 CDI in the CT70?
Hello I started putting the new Lifan 150 in my 1979 CT70 last night, and I'm wondering where you guys have been mounting the huge CDI that comes with this motor? I'm not sure that there is enough room under the gas tank. Thanks, Lorrin |

I made a bracket that bolts under the seat latch. It's just a flat plate with two holes for the cdi and two for the latch then bent it to match the curve of the frame.

If you end up hating the big box and little rotor, I can swap you ignitions for the YX outer rotor setup, or a gold full-size one. That light rotor and slingless crank gives some quick revs.

Well, I think the poster who answered must have a different motor with a smaller CDI. I can't see any way to fit the Lifan 150 CDI in the seat area. Anyway, my new attack is to put it under the gas tank way down in the hollow part of the frame (where it's tough to even see). I'll get it mounted somewhere, blipping the throttle in the garage with all the wires hanging out is getting boring. :^) It sounds WAY different than the slow revving Honda motor. Thanks Terry! A smaller one is fairly cheap isn't it? I'm asking because I may going through this same thing soon.

You can't use the (lifan)mini flywheel with a normal cdi. Options, as firepower said, switch to the YX (mini)ignition. The cdi is smaller but a four point cdi-connection throws another spanner in the works. The other option is a normal 12v flywheel and cdi. |

I meant I'd swap him the whole deal, stator, rotor, box, if the Lifan brain is too cumbersome. I build ugly crap, so the CDI can go in the cooler on the rack with my sammich.

I'll post a pic up tonight of it. It's the lifan 150 cdi that's huge. There's not much room but it fits. I dont know if it matters but mine is a 81 with a plastic tank.

Here ya go. If the 79 came with the plastic tanks to you should be good. It is a little close to the back of the tank but it's worth it. This seems like a far better cdi then what comes stock with most motors. I ran a timing light on the average china cdi and there is no advancement when the motor runs. This cdi runs a fair amount of advancement, i think it was close the 30 degrees if i remember correct. Anyways give it a try and let me know how it goes.
