| This would make a cool build
Someone should try this. I would if I had a beater bike and a CRF50 swingarm and shock. Got the idea from an eBay auction picture. http://cgi.ebay.com/honda-z50r-frame...QQcmdZViewItem |

With the down tube missing from under the seat mount, I'd be afraid that the frame would bend about where that upper shock mount is. I'm not real familiar with the newer 50s, but don't they compensate for that with a tube on each side of the seat that runs down to the main frame tube? /dayj1 |

Pretty easy to add a couple of braces on each side to make it structurally sound. Not a bad idea, especially for an extended swing arm, as it braces the extra length - plus there are a lot of good aftermarket shocks for that setup.

It's been done a few times. There were a couple threads a while back on the subject with some good pics of modified frames with the supports added and the shock mount for the single shock. Wouldnt be that difficult.

Yeah. Would work great if you weld in some sheetmetal. But some tubing would hold up better. |

I've seen it done. The guys at Yellowdogracing.com have an older Z with a mono.

I did email them a while back and ask them about it and they responded with a polite and informative response. Like the bike or not, it looks fun and these guys seem like they know how to have fun with their toys. the fugly comment seemed a bit arrogant and uncalled for. I don't think it would be a problem running it without the braces that were cut to give room for the mono shock. The origional braces are there because the shocks attach to the seat bracket and would exert alot of force onto it. With the shock being attached at the center there is no more need for the braces. I think the stock seat mount is plenty heavy enough to hold you up. The crf frame needs the braces because the seat mount framework isn't strong enough to hold it up without it........Well after looking closer, I guess I would prefer to fab up some sort of bracing for peace of mind.

I would probalby feel more comfortable with braces as subframes seem to bend even with the braces. So a subframe with out the braces would seem to me be even more bendable in a crash or hard landing on the seat.

I also noticed that a hole would have to be cut in the back fender. But the ride height could be changed. Shouldn't be all that hard. It should sit wierd though when you think about it. Longer swingarm, taller wheels front and rear, and CRF forks. They all add up to higher hieght and the dude is using the stock Z kick stand I think.
