I have a 97 Z, and I also have some old complete wheels off a 78 Z...

Will the 78 Z50 wheels bolt up to the newer 97 frame and all that?

The reason I am asking is because Ill throw some cheapo tires on the old rims and stud them for ice riding, then I can have my normal wheels for when I am not on the ice.

if you use the hubs and wheel halves from the 78 you should be fine

sweet. they are complete wheels (even spacers and the brake hubs) so I thought it would work.
