either way its using newer urethane paints to match old nitrocellulose lacquer candy. the match is in the number of coats and concentrate of the candy mix.

Re: z50 candy topaz orange

I used this kit on one of my restorations, never again. He said it was OEM Honda Candy color and will match. No! I complained that the candy was way too runny and he said no it wasn't. Take a piece to your paint shop and have them "computer match" for the real deal and match. House of kolor or other good quality paint, you'll never regret it.

u wont get that great of a match of a computer on a candy.

its done by candy chips and variang the amout of coats.

either way. its still trying to match a tristage from back in the day which is extremely hard.

Re: z50 candy topaz orange

I had my painter match the candy on my bike and he did it almost perfectly. He had it matched via computer and used a base and a clear, and it's dead on. It can be done if you know what to do and take the extra steps. I bought some OEM shocks and had him re-shoot those and they are perfect.

Re: z50 candy topaz orange

The problem with those kits, is the Candy is too runny and it runs down the frame or whatever your painting. My painter had to do it three different times and had to sand after each application. He was pissed!

u may match it, but u still got to spray it to get that color. candies get darker with every coat. there is no full coverage like with a solid/metallic/pearl.

candies are matched by eye and application.

Re: z50 candy topaz orange

50, you are dead wrong. I personally watched the Candy run down the frame myself. I purchased another of these kits from this guy before and this was totally different. Also, the painter who did my bike, is also the same guy who does professional painting for three trucks on the Nascar circuit and does my stuff because he's a personal friend, I think he knows what he's doing. But thanks for the tip, I'll pass it on. I'm not the painter, he is.

paint just doesnt run on its own, its the application!!! and thats the basecoat. u know how hard it is to run a basecoat?

thanks for clarifyin what he does, it makes him sound like a hack even more.

i personally wouldnt trust what someone breaksdown on their own and sells as a kit. u have no idea what they did or what they put in it.

hand me the paint in the gun mixed up ready to go. i wont run it. an d i dont need to brag about what ive done either to prove my point!

Hey 50, I wasn't bragging about my buddy, just he "does know what the hell" he's doing. Whatever, we'll agree to disagree.

Re: z50 candy topaz orange

You could buy one of those kits for $128, but then you have to pay your painter and then you're into it for around $500 -$600. Why not just have your painter come up with a cool custom or something close to stock, it will save you $$$ in the long run.
