z50 fork leg question

Does anyone know if you can put newer crf50 fork leg bottoms into a z50 fork?

Re: z50 fork leg question

Yep no problem. The only difference is the right is the left fork leg. And you have to flip the wheel and brake hub to the other side.

I have crf50 legs in my '86 Z50RD, the biggest difference is the drum stay pin is on the left leg of the crf50 and on the right of the z50r. There fit just the same. You can reverse the brake to the left side with no problems except maybe needing a longer brake cable and readjusting the actuator arm.

Re: z50 fork leg question

I'm not sure of this but I think the roll pins that retain the lower fork tube to the spring-and-bumper assembly are oriented differently too...as I recall, on the older Zs the pins are driven in from what would be the side, and on the newer Z50Rs and later they are oriented front-to-back. Not a big deal unless you're trying to mix and match later tubes on earlier springs or vice versa, but still.

Re: z50 fork leg question

It is not an issue. You set the uppers in the notch and all the pressure is on an 1/8 turn on the spring.
