I bought a set of risers from a junkyard for 20 bux. Worked good. I wish they were a little taller though.

if you want a low cost fix and you have access to a welder and torch... you can horizontally cut the front and back sides of the box shaped part of the mount... cut it so the bars and the top part of the mount will come off the bike but the bottom part of the mount stays bolted to the triple tree. Then, unbolt the bottom part of the mount, get two 2 1/2 or 3 inch bolts that are the same diameter as the stock bolts. Weld them into the bottom mount so they will not turn when you tighten the nut under the triple tree. Weld the top part of the mount back onto the bottom part. Then get a stack of flat washers (or metal tubing cut to the length of lift you desire), put the same amount of washers on both the longer bolts, slide the bolts into the triple tree, put the nut on the bottom and tighten. It's adjustable too. Bars still to low? Add a few washers or cut a longer piece of metal tubing and slide it over the bolts. That's what the previous owner did to my 1984 z50r. Pretty ingenious fix and basically free if you already have the hardware. It's hard to see the mount cut and welded in the pics but you get the idea I hope. I haven't added any spacers between the bar mount and the triple tree yet, but you can see I've got about 2" of height adjustment on the bars. ![]() ![]() Last edited by d0n; 06-01-2006 at 07:34 PM. |

I stole the mounts off an old DR 200 that sits behind my shed, and they worked great with BMX bars and now with my BBR bars.

I used the 1979 Z50R components. The bars are 1.5 inches taller and they have real clamps so you can push them forward. The only cable that doesn't fit is the front brake cable. It is longer on the 1979 so you need one of those also. The rest of the cable/wiring fits with re-routing. ![]() ![]() |
