| z50 split rims. help please
I can't for the life of me get my tires off my rims. the wheels are off a 94 and a 99 z50r. i let all the air out, removed the hub, and unbolted the wheel halves. I can't get the bead to break. Can anyone offer some advise please? At this point all i can think to do is bring them to a tire place to break the bead on a tire machine. |

^ Try that. Or, use a torch to heat up around the sides of the tire and then try to use a few big pairs of good C clamps or something to squeeze the tire and break the bead a little at a time. Or, just throw it in the gutter and go buy another. |

Maybe a bench mounted vice if it's big enough?

yeah thats probably the best idea, the vice. I don't have one, but i do have access to one. I think i will try that tonight. If that doesn't work i think i will have Chuck Norris come down and stare at the rims until they pop apart in fear of getting round-house kicked.

Giant ice block holders ("picks") from the days of the "ice box"? Sorry about your troubles Portland.. I remember having the same problem once. I bolted the hub back on and tossed it on eBay. |

I use a big bench vise and two lengths of five-quarter by 3 inch pieces of wood to pinch the tire together, and work my way around the rim edge with a small tire iron. You have to keep rotating the tire in the vise, and it takes some time. I'd gauge it as a 2-beer tire breakdown... |

haha, a 2 beer break down time huh? Well i have 4 tires to break down, so i am looking at 8 beers! Might as well just go for the whole 12 pack at that point. I don't understand the comment about me calling myself Portland. and is that a picture of Easy-E? Please explain. |

Liquid dishwashing soap and long flat screwdrivers. That's how I did it when I removed my tires for the first time since assembly in 1984. But now it's easy. Just two screwdrivers. I never had any trouble.

I cut mine off with a wire cutter. You know, the kind that will go through chain link fencing. I cut through the tire with them, then I could see the metal bands that where rusted onto the rim halves. I then pried them up a bit and snapped them off with the cutters.

![]() God bless the power of Google. Somebody make this pic big. Same exact ad I saw as a kid. I remember I wanted those jeans so bad, but they were only available for adults. LOL Chuck Norris is the ****. Maybe you can score a pair of these on ebay and just kick those suckers apart, after a few beers of course? | |

Actually i was thinking it was from the song My hooptie by Sir Mix A Lot. Thus the portland tie in. Either way it still made me laugh.

Oh. lol Yeah Eazy E broke out with the song Boyz In Tha Hood and ever since it has been sampled by 764,899,001,344,106 artists out there.. It still makes me smile every time I hear it. Such a great beat to it.. My first 2 cars were 65 impalas. Never got to add a six fo' to the collection tho. I always bumped that song when I was younger and the neighbors all hated me for it. Rest In Peace Eazy! |
