z50 tank and seat

can you put the older style like a 1982 tank on a 1989 that has the plastic tank,
and same with the seat?

Not directly. You will need to cut some mounts off the 82 and weld them on the 89. And cut some 89 mounts just to get them out of the way. It can be done. But quite honestly, it would be a lot easier to get an 82 frame and just use that. Because the only cosmetic difference between 89 and 82 is the body panels and some paint. So essentially you would have an 82 Z50R with a CDI motor. And it's a lot easier to get to that by getting a stock 82 frame.

The 1989 Honda Z50R did not have a plastic tank. Steel till 99 the last year of Z.

Read this. It explains how to mount those parts on the 89 frame. And it also explains why you shouldn't and a much easier way to get the same outcome.
