Z50 or Z50r engine

Whats the main difference between the z50 and z50r engines? I just got 82 z50r in 1000 pieces and noticed while researching parts there seems to be up to 81 parts and 82 and newer parts, is there any interchangeable components?

Re: Z50 or Z50r engine

Crankshafts, heads, pistons, and flywheels are different. The '81 and older are referred to as short rod engines, the '82 and newer are the long rod engines.
Everything else is pretty much the same.
