what are you guys using for bar clamps on your Z50R's? I found the fast50's clamps(and they're nice!!) but i can't justify spending $100 just for clamps. I thought of grinding the "rivets" off the bottom of my clamps and installing some 400EX bar clamps through the top triple. Any info is greatly appreciated. Pics are even better. Thanks for looking. I used these off a full size MX bike....sorry don't remember exact brand. Anything could be made to work though.

I made a triple clamp out of flat 1/8th inch steel(so I could mount the bars further forward).Cut it out and 5 holes piece of cake.The I used clamps from some big bike application(cant remember which).

Also the older Z's had bolt on clamps,I "think" early 80's.

XR/CRF 70 clamps on the original top plate works well too. Not too $$$ either.

stock clamps off an 70 or the entire upper triple off a 70? I'm going to assume the upper triple is different than the current fiddies right? sorry for the stupid questions, I'm a newb to this Z50 and the search function doesn't work as well as i hoped it would. thanks for all the help guys. I'm trying to build up this 1996 as a mini motard/ stunter for my nephew, and i'm doing it on a serious budget. . .

Just the split bar clamp pieces. Bolt them where the stock Z bars go.

thanks guys, i just snagged a set of new 300ex 7/8" clamps off e-gay for less than $20 shipped. I<3 planetminis contributing members. Now if i can just get you guys to put up with me through the next month while i bombard you with questions i can't find the answers to

its been too long since i did my z, but i think the stock bars are not 7/8, so if you put 7/8 bars on you'll need to change out the throttle tube and brake perch

since everyone is so graciously halping me out here(thank you all), does anyone want to tell me if xr/crf style footpegs will bolt up to this Z50? what are the other good parts sources for parts other than fast50's? I need a seat cover(preferrably OEM, but repro will work if it's nice), street tires, and possibly a pipe. Thanks for all the info!!!

Yes on the pegs/brackets. Bars are 7/8". I've gotten a couple pretty nice Z50 seat covers on Ebay from a guy up in Canada. Kings 8" street tires are pretty good. Look into a "Minigunz" pipe. Check out tbparts.com and Classic Honda for more ideas.

I used stock 1979 Z50R clamps. And stock 79 bars too. Way better than stock on later years. I think they are 1.5 or 2 inches taller. I forget the exact measurement.

Stock bars on a Z50 are 7/8 or 22.2mm. It's the XR50 and CRF50 that had the skinnier bars.

Those eBay bar clamps are not from a '77, that year still had the fold-down bars. Also, the Z50 bar mounts do not have the rubber grommets. The mounting stud for the top triple clamp is maybe 15-16mm long, if that.
