110 motor/carb recommendations...

Alright guys, my motor is about to be massaged and wanted to get your opinions. I race SM in a 111cc max class. I have a stock klx motor. I want a stout motor that will run at the front of that class without being so over the top that I can't ride the bike anywhere but the track. My plans so far are to port and polish, 4th gear and primary drive are going in, and probably a cam. I will be running a PC Ti-4 pipe. So what do you guys recommend? What cam? What carb? Anything else I'm missing?

How about anyonebut_24and48?

I want to add more info to this discussion. I want to repeat that this will not be a big bore motor. It will be 111cc. I was told by a reputable motorbuilder that for this particular application anything more than the stock carb would be unnecessary. I want to hear why that would be true or false. Thanks in advance for your input guys.

Re: 110 motor/carb recommendations...

I ran a Mikuni Flatslide 24mm with a ported 111cc motor. Perfect carb for that displacement.

I used a TB cam, but a Takagawa cam would be better, i think.

I geared down to a 13/39 sprockets. the 4th gear is quite tall.

If you're running the stock piston, run a thinner base gasket. Stock is .020" thick (if i remember correctly) and i went down to a .010" thick gasket. That helped.

Sounds like you're running the motor I want to run. A few questions:
Any model numbers or specs on the TB cam you're running or the Takagawa cam? I am running the stock piston, who makes the .010" gasket? What intake are you running with the 24?

Re: 110 motor/carb recommendations...

it's one of the early TB cams, i don't know any specs. for it.

Haven't tried a Tak cam, but i just think they would be better.

I use a stock intake maniford with the carb boot from Dr.atv. I ported the manifold to match the boot and my ported head.

Re: 110 motor/carb recommendations...

Paxracing sells a stock bore high compression piston that would be a nice addition I think. For the cam I dont know the specs but when I had my tb143 put together my mechanic said that the trailbikes cam is only a very small improvement over stock. But that might be good for stock displacement because if you get too agressive of a cam it will begin to hurt you. For carb I definetly wouldn't go 26 I think it would just be too gutless a 24 or 22 would be just about right. Filthyboatguy will be the best one to tell you about boosting a stock bore motors power.

Re: 110 motor/carb recommendations...

26 will work on the kart track if you keep the revs up, and if you are an 80 lb kid!

TB cam is milder than the Takegawa one and it should work great in a stocker, have to put mine in.

I think KLX110rr has a good setup, if only he would share those jetting specs for that finicky carb?

My 110 has a BBR pipe, BBR rev box, Kitaco super coil, TB manual (3 spd), TB primary gear, Mikuni VM20 jetted 17.5/150 and K&N cone. Takes the same jets as a VM26 and pulls the 150 main just fine.

I have a TB cam I will be installing in the next month and that's it for this season. I figure with the cam in it'll make an honest 8.5 - 9 horses.

For next season, I have a new take off head I'll get ported, also have a new take off cylinder freshly honed and 11:1 Weisco piston in a box on my shelf I'll run also. Plan to pair this up with a Takegawa K10 cam and Mikuni VM26 and hope it makes 10.5 - 11 horses.
