Looking at a DRZ110 this weekend.

I am probably going to look at a DRZ this weekend. I have wanted one for a while but want to make sure I know what I am getting into. The guy said it runs and drives good but doesn't feel like it has as much compression as his other (lower hour) KLX110 does, he also says it smokes a little. What am I looking at to get it fixed and on a pretty small budget, what parts should I look at to upgrade for a 180lb rider?

well it will need new rings definatly, doubt a piston since its stock. all you really need is heavy springs for the forks and rear shock. and also a heavy duty peg mount. if you're going to be doing some jumping then a cradle. mabe a tall seat too?

So generally speaking I shouldn't have to put a new piston in it or bore/replate?

I wouldn't think so but you will know when the head comes off. loss of compression and burning oil is from the rings being toast. well, if you plan to keep it stock then you could change the piston.. but if you are planning to ride it for a little while and slap a bore kit on eventually I wouldn't bother wasting money on a stocker piston. if you do decide to opt for a new piston I would hone the cylinder definately.

Re: Looking at a DRZ110 this weekend.

I picked it up yesterday, once I got their I couldn't resist. The KX65 was fun, crazy fast, balls out fun but wasn't really a pitbike. The DRZ is awesome, WFO everywhere. It seems to run good, I have never really ridden one sober so I don't know how they are suppose to ride but the motor seems to vibrate a little more than I think it should up high. It has Tag mini bars on it and ugly azz plastics. Now I need a tall seat and 4th gear, can't wait to start modding it.
