My Mood: | output shaft seal
well today was the groundbreaking moment i've worked the past months on getting this dang bike done. after riding it for about an hour, I stopped off at my truck for a break and discovered that I have a leak at the seal on the output shaft. pleease tell me this doesn't involve splitting cases to punch that seal out.. it's still going to be ridden leaking or not next weekend on my trip down to socal. it isnt much of a leak, more of a seep, but it's leaking. what is this going to involve?

Super easy. Pops right out. You can pluck it out with a dental pick, seal pick, drywall screw. Avoid nicking the case. New one pushes right back in. Lay it on the right side and not even have to drain the oil. OIL SEAL,SC22325 92049-1048 under $5 from the Green Guys, $2 fron alternate sources. 22x32x5 seal is common.

thank you guys very much! I can guarantee my Kawi dealership doesn't have it in stock so I'll just have to do it when I get back from the trip.

Check the local bearing shop in the Yellow pages, Google the "22x32x5 seal", check around. It's a very common size, for wheels too.

just a thought, but you may want to consider one of those vented tappet covers. i think mini mob has them. helps the motor vent a bit. i put one on my bike after going through a couple of those seals. and it helped a lot. i think it has a lot to do with the added air volume/ velocity from a big bore... can't all escape out the factory vent tube so it needs to get out somewhere. and i doubt the seals are that high quality coming out of taiwan (i think total brain loss... i could get off the couch and look but that equals work)

I have breathers on all my bikes .. And the last seal I lost , leak'd because the the metal collar was rusted / pitted and messed up the seal ... IMO -- It needs to be made of stainless .. Stupid collar thing ... Last edited by JohnnyB; 11-10-2009 at 06:55 PM. | |

I thought about those vents but figured it wasnt needed for a 143. I can see it on the 165s and up but didn't figure my motor needed it, but heck every little bit helps. I'm tired of working on this motor, it needs to get ridden!

My Mood: | Re: output shaft seal what o-ring are you talking about? I'm looking at that diagram Terry posted and it just shows the seal collar #92049 and a bearing on the opposite side. I haven't pulled it out yet to see what all is in there so I'm going from the schematic(sp?)
