What is the difference in 02

Got a really clean 02 klx110. Wanting to do some mods but I hear the 02 is different from later models. Is this bike limited? If so how? Couldn't find info in search.

Thanks

yah if you stroke it you have to put a new model clutch on it and run a primary gear.

The cases and the auto clutch is the same.

Everything from the head, crank, tranny, clutch, primary gear, etc are different.

I have these same questions. Can you get around all this by getting a newer motor and putting it in the 2002 frame? Or whats the best way around this?

I have an 02 with a 4sp, man/hyd clutch and had a 138cc, now back to stk cyl. also has pps forks, shock and swing arm... it was very trick it's day but now the suspension is dated, how-ever its still a great pitbike.

The difference is the crank, flywheel, clucth, drive gear. On the 02 the small end of the crank is weak.

Yes you can put just about all the new engine build stuff such as a crank, bbk, head, shift drum but the clutch basket and primary gear are different and will need to be changed out if you plan on doing either a primary gear or an aftermarket clutch.

Re: What is the difference in 02

Ok I got a chp cable clutch kit used off of ebay. My 02 has a bearing in the cover for the crank. Instruction show a seal. Anybody know bout this? I guess only 02s had a bearing. I would think that would be better.

Oil is routed through the clutch cover to lubricate the primary gear. The seal is there to maintain oil pressure to the crank.

The bearing is to support the end of the older crank since it has different dimensions compared to the newer ones.

Thanks. Went by CHP today and they haven't ever built an 02. He just showed me that only 02 had the bearing. So diameter will be the same in the aftermarket cover for the bearing?

my friend put an 05 clutch cover on his 02 cases (with all the 02 internals at the time). with the seal, it worked fine.

Re: What is the difference in 02

Went by CHP again today to get the seal today. A guy there told me to run the bearing because the 02 crank is weaker.
