It was a division of Harley, and an unprofitable one at that. Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Saturn, lots of dead weight tossed overboard, trying to keep the big ships sailing through the horse latitudes.

Yes it was division of Harley..but the only sport bike division....the 883 night trains don't count. Just hate to see another American Icon fall to the global economy of exporting our jobs and importing more junk just to keep Wal-mart at the top of the heap.

that sucks. we didn't really see too many up here. if people wanted a sport bike, they bought a jap bike, if they wanted a harley, the bought one. they were defenatly pretty cool though. hopefully the economy recovers soon. said the nasdeq or dow jones came above 10,000 finally, and oil is over 75 bones a barrel. again hopefully these are all good signs.

Another sad day in America. This is and will continue to happen to all of the good American companys as we continue to purchase goods that are made offshore just because its so called cheaper.

Buy American and save what little we have manufactured here.

), while the Buell floundered as an oddity, embraced fully by neither the sportbike or HD crowds. Initially ragged, they became cool, high tech rollers with lumps in the middle. They updated the lumps, a little, but never enough to compete with more sophisticated bikes like Il Mostro. Even the engineering talent of Erik Buell wasn't enough to generate sales. Sad, but no more so than the multiple deaths and rebirths of Norton, the pass-the-name game that Indian went through, BSA, Matchless, Greeves, Excelsior-Henderson, Hesketh, there are hundreds of marques that have came and went, even plenty in the US. Some amazing cycles, some awful, Buell had a few of each to it's credit. As to their "classic" status, keep that subscription to Walneck's for another couple of decades...

Most are probably not to familiar with Bultaco.......But some are familiar with the names of Gary Bailey(AKA The Professor) Daytona SX track designer for decades! And all time great David Bailey. Back in the day they were were Bultaco they brought the small spanish company to do great things.

I have to maintain my weight for the FAT BOY class in the MOM series!!!ha ha

Very sad for BUELL, it is a great bike to learn on, easy to ride well balanced. My wife got here license learning on a BUELL. The local Harley Dealer used BUELLS for the school.
