Mini Trucks, Street Legal?

With the absurd fuel prices and obvious mini hauling a mini tie-in, has anyone plated a Japanese mini truck like a Suzuki Carry, Mitsubishi, Honda, Dihatsu or one of the other 660cc rigs for bike transport or just a fuel saving fun ride?

Cool as hell, ain't they?
A buddy has a plated Yamaha golf cart, so I think I can make it work, in MI anyway.

Re: Mini Trucks, Street Legal?

your talking about street legaling an import?

i have so much background on this it isnt even funny...

there are two ways, well one way really to go about it.. buy a crashed truck and vin swap the vehicle... its illegal but it is the easiest because for you to do the legalizing procedure it is gonna be hell... the second way is to make it registered as a kit car.. but just to let you know, a company in cali got in trouble for registering skylines as 240sx`s and they got shut down... don't know what happened to them now.. be careful...

Yeah, if the 25 year exemption won't fly, I'd do it as an assembled vehicle(hate "kit car") like my buddy did with the golf cart. I titled my KX500 and RS250, so I think I can wiggle through it. I'm just wondering if anyone else here has done it. I see it's being done on the mini truck forums.

I had a couple S-10's with A-arms, notched frames, and built small blocks, then a Ram with a 5/7 drop. Sure made loading the dragbikes easier

Re: Mini Trucks, Street Legal?

There's a dealer for those little trucks by me. They're street legal, the University I'm attending has several of the vans and trucks they drive all the time.

The Yota I owned awhile back. I only dropped the back, didn't even crank the torsion bars. The Mazda can't go down any further without a notch in the back, and the front's getting dropped more in the near future.

For sure! I got a York and a bracket for the Mazda already, but I just picked up a 2004 CRF50, so my money is going into that for the moment. I'll probably bag it this winter. I do want to drop the front some more until then.

209 a friend of mine gave me. I had a whammy hydraulic setup for it... but figured it would be easier to lay it out with bags. My homie is in the process of dooring his B2000.

Re: Mini Trucks, Street Legal?

sounds like a plan, bags are way better than hydros imo. doored b2000 would be sweet. a buddy of mine has had his truck apart for over a year lol stock floor b/d built entire frame from firewall back built the air tank the air tank holds the fuel cell. he works all the time so he doesnt get much time to work on it or it would be done. it will be sick when its finished..its cut to lay a 22
