| Quad trade...what do you think??
I have a 1994 Polaris 400 4x4, runs good, pretty good shape for its age, plow winch, e-start, auto. Im looking for a sport quad to take on the dunes next summer and go a few offers... what do you think is my best option,, 1) 1999 honda 400ex, 440 big bore kit, paddles and dirt tires on aluminum rims, graphics, nerf bars, heel guards, renthal bars. 2) stock 2002 honda 400ex w douglas rims and a more agressive tire tread, renthal bars. no work ever done to it 3) 1986 honda 250R complete motor overhaul new seals pistons crank etc etc, also has a more agressive tread pattern, and comes with an extra set of factory plastics and seat cover. Some argue its the best 2-stroke quad ever produced. What option is my best for rec riding, and the dunes next summer??? |

best quad for just trails and such, i would say would be the 400ex with the 440 kit. those work really well. but if you are willing to keep up with the maintenance the 250r is regarded as one of the best quads ever built. compared to the newer 400ex's the suspension will be close, as the 400 ex didn't really have suspension that was leaps and bounds better than the 250r. if it were me, i would go with the 250r. it will be a lot of fun

Dude i used to race a Leager trx 250r at nationals. TRUST Me, when i say that the Honda is the best bike for you. it is so versitle. MX, Cross Country, Desert, FMX etc. There are so many dang parts for this bike and very cheap. Finally, its very dependable. and so much support for this bike. NOTE: the only thing that was ever flawed on the 86's is the 3rd gear. it would loose teeth after too much abuse, lack of maintanence, or harsh shifts. go with the stockbore 400ex, 440 is an over bored cylinder with a 440 sleeve, they run pretty fast but get hot pretty quick and you can never put a stock sleeve back in, the stock sleeve can be bored out to a 416 (i believe) then re-sleeved to a 400. if i were u i would sell it out right and save up for a 450, you can find some reasonable yfz's or older 450r's. i race b class on my 04 450r MONEY PIT lol
