Look at the 54mm piston TB's using for a 117 setup... with that combustion chamber, I don't think you'll find a lump big enough to give reasonable compression without absolutely destroying flame front propagation. Plus, it may require a 54mm bore just to avoid valve to cylinder contact.

Same problem, taking that 54mm setup and running it on a shorter stroke to keep the displacement down, you still need a piston with more of a lump on top to fill that combustion chamber more than what you need to get the same job done with 117cc of displacement.

Re: NEW TB Race head 30mm for Crf50 and More @ T Bolt USA

the pricing on just the heads , no cam is $219
only a 54mm /117cc piston is matched to this head
(for now)

this is a very exciting new product !

basically thats the point, this is a head designed for 117cc motors , im not going to say its cant work on anything but the design is clear

Can't reduce the OD of a piston that much. Or at all, without pretty sophisticated equipment.

Ignoring the feasibility of reducing the OD of a piston...

Bore, stroke, it doesn't matter, it's the displacement that matters when discussing compression.

Compression Ratio = (Displacement + Combustion space at TDC) / (Combustion space at TDC)

The combustion space is the amount of space left between the piston and the head when the piston is all the way up.

TB typically specs their kit's around 11:1 compression, enough to provide some good bang, without risking detonation on crap pump gas.

So, lets plug in some numbers...

11 = ( 117 + Cv ) / Cv

Solve out for CV and you get 11.7cc of combustion volume space at TDC. So, lets say you use a stock crank instead of TB's stroker crank to keep the displacement down. The piston sits in the same spot at TDC, so the Cv changes, we've altered the displacement. (54 x 41.4 = 95cc)

Compression Ratio = ( 95 + 11.7 ) / 11.7

This drops you to a 9.1:1 Compression Ratio. You need to find 2cc of additional 'stuff' to fill up that empty space at TDC to get the CR back up to 11:1.

FWIW, the valves will clear a 50mm bore, and the chamber is aboot 53mm. Quick mill job to <52mm. Piston would have to be sourced elsewhere.

Re: NEW TB Race head 30mm for Crf50 and More @ T Bolt USA

Depending on the valve angles im wondering if a takegawa old super head piston would work? Cut the valve reliefs a little extra for the valves. I would def think the piston would have enough dome for it. only problem is the valve angles? They may be way different making you have to really cut a lot of material off the piston. There are definitely pistons out there for a 88 that would make enough compression with the right work it should be possible. I would think that this piston would make enough compression. I just dont know if the valve angles are off so much that it wouldnt work.

Or this kitaco 88 kit may work

I was going to buy a 117 kit to install on my 92 trail 70 project motor. Will this kit work with that motor?
