My Mood: | The kids first run on the KX65
Finally got a day at Miller Motorsports Park on the new mini tard. My 8 year old son Gauge has been racing for 3 years on various bikes from CRF50's to Pitster Pro X2's. This was his first day on a 2-stroke and his first time riding with a clutch. He burned through almost 4 gallons of fuel today working out the differences. By days end he had a good grasp and lap times were close to what he's been running all year... now it's time to start knocking time off the laps! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Dude, Right on! Man, If my pops would of gotten my started this young I might of had a chance. I had to start road racing in my mid twenties, when I could afford it. Your kids going to have great memories. Just make sure you keep it fun for him. My daughters (nine and seven) have no interest in riding whether its dirt or road. They do it for me. but they are slow.. Now, my 4 month old baby boy is going to be in heaven if he likes to ride. And if he does I hope he's fast!!!!! (thats my boy)..Nice build, the bike looks great. Hows your boy liking the new found power?? Cool name by the way. |

My Mood: | Re: The kids first run on the KX65 Thats the hardest part of the whole thing. I'm in a learning curve on that right now. I've taught Advanced Riders Training for sportbikes and been a race license instructor as well. I'm used to working with adults and their level of concentration when it comes to learning correct lines and such. Working with other kids is easier too. It's the hardest thing in the world to see your kid go out there and run 5 perfect laps after you've taught them something then revert right back to what they were doing before. I have more to learn than he does!

Teaching your own kids anything is hard...Most times you are better off getting a different qualified person to teach them. For some reason they just want to always rebel against their own parents...I think it is natural though. I would like to see the Go Pro video of his laps. Good luck and just remember what I said...and adjust to him being your son and not just another rider....and he will be great |

Ya, I've got a couple other people who are going to work with him. Theres not much to see on the vid. It was the last session of a 7 hour day and I told him to slow down and work on lines. It's just something I can use at home to work with him. Had him short shifting everywhere so he could work on down shifts into the corners. I might post it up later.

Gotta agree 100%, my kids learn far more from my "friends" at the track than from me........ This year was a huge leap for my son! My daughter is coming around. Make sure its super fun for them and not WORK! It seams to help when they reach the next level of maturity, right now your son is still a child, when he becomes and adolescent he will make huge progress in dealing with adults "coaching" him about racing like any other sport........ Man if I was in his body I could PHLY on that KX65 |

You have no idea how hard it was for me to not jump on it and turn some laps. I stayed on my LXR though.

| Re: The kids first run on the KX65 I am building both. I recently picked two kx's for 5 bills (02 and a 99) good deal. And two weeks ago I bought a lxr for 1 g. The 02 kx and the lxr will be rr bikes. How much faster is the kx than the lxr. Can equal riders have fun together or is it no contest?
