My Mood: | 08 X4 Gearing Ok guys i got a question...the x4 is suppose to have 15/39 gearing and a 420 chain right?of all the spec sheets and stuff ive read that what it is suppose to have on it.Well i have a slight gearing issue between 2nd and 3rd gear so i was switching to a 14 tooth counter i was looking at the stock counter and its a 16 tooth 428 chain does anyone else have this problem or have a 16 tooth on there x4 too?i swaped a 15 tooth for the 14 tooth ill see how that works this weekend |

The X4 150 comes with the 428 chain, I think that first and second will be too close with the 15 or 14 in the front. I would suggest going to a 16 front with a 37 rear, you will find it makes first useable and second will be your best friend , it will then allow third and forth a little more run out and top speed.

or a 17t front, and yes the chain clears the cases.

When you gear down you make the engine use gears that are better suited for higher speeds. you are spinning the transmission internals much faster than needed , ultimately wearing things out much quicker. Making use of the lower gears to do the job they were designed for, they are much stronger than the higher gears for moving from a stop or lower speeds.
