| Anyone ever seen inside one of those Chinese full-auto clone motors?
As found on some of the little Chinese quads, etc.? Do they just have a regular semi-auto-style clutch running in oil, but only one gear pair and no shift shaft? Or is there some other apparatus in there? Do they eat clutches and fill the oil with clutch junk faster? Riding my semiauto Z around in third all the time seems kind of hard on it... |

Short gearing, and lighter riders, let 'em live a while longer.

I have one that only has the main shafts and one set of gears, it uses a klx style crank mounted 3 arm clutch. probably a 1:1 ratio, I will take apart one day and see what fun I can have..

Now that I think about it, early Honda NC50 Express no-peds had a one-speed drive off an oil-bath centrifugal clutch. No fancy technology, just a real heavy-duty centrifugal clutch in an oil-tight housing with some motor oil in it. They held up, from what I could see. I rode one around some in college, and have a disassembled one out in the garage where I trip over it all the time. Makes you wonder about something like MakeshiftPatriot's long-ass drag-swingarmed Z, with one of Firepower's crazy-ass motors, in a one-speed setup. Kind of a scale-model BB Chevy/Powerglide drag situation. Could it work? With a clutch tweaked to let the engine "stall" at its torque peak, a big enough oil cooler and frequent teardowns? Would it be any quicker than trying to shift? |

Now check out what I just saw on ebay, listed as a clutch for automatic 70/90/110 motors:

And why that one looks kind of like a minibike/gokart clutch, but with the splined hub to fit a Honda OHC engine, whereas the one on the other thread a little above this one looks like a standard semi-auto clutch...? What sort of tomfoolery is going on here?
