Has anyone made such a thing for a start in any gear motor? Mostly interested in torque value for clutch nut and the four bolts over the springs. There are few enough parts that I got it back together fine but apparently I did the 4 bolts too tight because my springs are all bottomed out and surprise, it doesn't work. Also if going from a 4 plate setup to 5 can I just load in the new plates or would I need a new basket that can accept the extra plate? |

Getting the outer hub locked in with the splines on the rear pressure plate is a PITA. Sounds like you missed. Pretty sure the 4 plate basket is shallower.

loosen all the four bolts until there is no tension against them, rotate the assembly with one hand while pulling outward at the same time, you will see the plates pull out together, then start tightening the four bolts evenly. If after tight all plates are tight as well, there should be a gap behind the rear plate, you have just done this correctly. The four and five plate baskets will interchange, but the steels and fibers are different thicknesses and cannot mix and match, or cannot just add one steel and fiber from a four disc or it will be too thick. Okay that sounds easy enough to figure out. I bought a 5 plate kit, I'll just measure the height of the stack compared to the height of the 4 stack that was in there and make sure they are comparable. so I just need to tighten the 4 bolts until snug? and what is the torque value for the clutch nut, same as a crank mount clutch at about 32ft-lbs? |

okay so I worked on it again tonight and the bearing in the top plate is touching the shaft going through the clutch, so pulling the lever wouldn't do anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone? why would this happen?
