| Engine recommendations if you please....
Hi, I recently picked up a couple old Honda ss50s that I'm rebuilding. One will be setup as a dual sport and one as a cafe like this: I've been riding and building bikes for 30+ years (ugh...do I feel old!) but I've never messed with these little flat motors. The lumps that came with my two are completely useless and probably not even rebuildable....which leads me to look for some chinese motors for them. I also like the idea of extra displacement as the dualsport will be my wife's 'buzz around town' bike. I'm leaning toward getting a couple Lifan 150's as I've heard pretty good reviews but I figure you kats have way more experience in these matters so I'd be up for some input on the subject. Thanks in advance for any assistance you care to give! Swag |

well it depends on your price range and a few other factors we have been here offering replacment motors for quite some time and they have proven very good to perfect for your retro type application a few that top the list are: GPX or Jialing 124cc (go to motor for 3-4 years) YX140 (next generation of jialing 124cc with larger bore and bigger 27/23 valve head) we have had great luck with these in various brand , GPX , EVOS , KRP , Piranha Lifan 150 has proven quite powerfull too but bottom end parts are limited supply YX 150 Daytona type is very similar to Lifan with a few nice differences like 13mm wrist pin and more user friendly oil cap Recently GPX has made a move to Zongshen engines so our GPX 90 & GPX 140 listing will be ZS offerings The Big dog is the new ZS 155cc with actual input from USA techs the only draw bach for retro and replacment on this type motor is the slightly different port angles and Close ratio MX type tranny gears let me know if we can help vince

I mention the Lifan 150 because I can get it as a complete package with carb, oil cooler and all the goodies, ready to bolt in for under 500 clams. It's got a 12v system so it'll run modern lights and all that fun stuff. Don't know much about the other ones you mention. I really wish there was a good comprehensive comparison of what's out there. You mention the 13mm wristpin, what makes that a selling point? Again....very VERY new to these motors.... thanks | |

well lifan is very good and quite sturdy but like i said somewhat limited for bottom end parts and common top end upgrades but for your normal bolt on and ride it very good im sure we can match the set up pricing and provide a 12v system and possible a real carb for you when i say "real" carb you will see many motors being sold with copy "mikuni" carbs we normally offer the genuine mikuni or better carbs to the guys as an upgrade another very nice mill to consider is YX150cc daytona type Were currently offer with Piranha logo most of the common and readily accessibly kits are 13mm wrist pin
