what gas, i mean octane are you guys running in your pitsters? i have a 08 x4r and it definitely runs better on half pump gas and half race gas.

If your bike is running better with half race gas mix, your jetting is off. High octane doesn't make more power, it actually takes away hp because of it's slow burning characteristics. Run the lowest octane you can with out detonation. I know plenty of engines out there running 89 octane. |

Octane is only part of the equation, the quality and consistancy of gas today is terrible. Your bike might be jetted correctly but for what formula of gas, 10% ethanol, winter blend, different blends for high population areas, different elevations with different evaporation rates, etc. Race gas is a consistant high quality gas that allows you to jet on the edge. Plus each gas company puts in their own additive package which is a different issue. Really it shouldn't be looked at as race gas but as high quality gas. The bottom line is these motors only run better on race gas if the quality of gas your comparing it to is lacking. |

very true. Most people idea of race gas is 110 octane stuff they buy down at the local gas station that sells the stuff out of their in ground containers. You don't see any of the factory guys buying fuel that way. True race fuels have additives and excellerants to make more power, like Propylene Oxide and other oxygen bearing chemicals. Also the properties of race fuels can be different like specific gravity. All this stuff will make a difference in the way your engine runs and or carburates. Most race gases are lightly oxygenated or their fuels have a lighter gravity in which case you will need to richin up your mixture to compensate for this. If your bike runs better on the "race fuel", it's probrobly jetted to rich in the first place. I always tell people if that you run pump fuel. Make sure it's fresh stuff from a frequently visited gas station ( like one next to a freeway on ramp) vs out in the middle of podunk trying to save some $$. Real race fuels that actually make power are going to be expensive and are high maintinence. The stuff I run is $32. a gal but it's worth every bit of that if you are building championship winning engines. |

All the factory teams run their own version of fuels to get the most out of their engines Try pricing out VP MR10 or R-tech PRO V-1. Yoshimura's F&L fuel goes for over $200 a gallon. | |

For years F-1 cars ran their own blends of fuel with heavy metals and all kinds of strange stuff. That was in the days of 1300-1500hp turbcharged 4 cylinder motors with powerbands of 1500rpm. I remember Ron Dennis (F1 team manager) saying it cost over $700 dollars a gallon to blend that stuff.

| Re: gas? haha true, but with a pitbike engine only being able to hold just over a gallon a gas, it aint so bad. My gas bill for my roadracers just for a weekend race is $450. My tire bill is twice that much and that is just for 2 sprint races. |
