My Mood: | Leatt Brace
Hey fellas, I need some advice here. Some of you may know that I had to have a couple of discs removed from my neck last Thursday, and I was informed that my riding days are pretty much over. I say bull! Does anyone know if the neck braces out there really work and would they protect someone like me with a fused neck? I never really read up on them and I have searched the web for info, and it seems that they do work but there is nothing in great detail. If you can provide any advice on them please do so, I am trying everything to keep the peace with the family! Thanks in advance! |

I think you are gonna find that everyone has an opinion on neck braces. Some will tell you they are great, some are gonna say they are unproven and there is no real medical or scientific evidence that they work. And some fit into the third catogory with me who are trying to remain open minded and believe that some protection is better than nothing. I'm not a doctor but I know if I was in your position, I would purchase one. My son wears an EVS neck brace and likes it.

I see where you are coming from. I guess at this point in time it doesnt really matter, I cant ride for at least 18 months. I am trying to justify keeping them, and waiting out the 18 months, but I know that it is for the best that I sell them. I am going to ask the doctor next week what his thoughts are on the leatt brace and see if that is a possible route for me. I appreciate your time and response.

i agre with wandell that definitely no protection is better than none. and i have seen first hand some pretty gnarly crashes where buddies wearing the braces have got up and shook it off with nothing more than a concussion and maybe a broken arm, but most certainly should have busted necks or atleast severe whiplash. i have been through the broken neck action before and know that it sucks bad, and plan on getting a brace asap myself. and just remember your drive and determination will dictate how fast you heal and what you will be able to do in your future! |

Troop They told me the same thing when I had my back rebuilt 10 years ago. Told me all that stuff was over and that 1 wreck could paralyze me. Well to be honest it maybe could but sitting in a Lazy Boy watching TV is just like being paralyzed. Since my back rebuild I have ridden broncs in rodeos, rock climbed, road raced motorcycles ( and crashed at 100 mph + several times), supermoto and mx'ed the minis and bombed down 800 foot deep abandoned mine shafts on rope. Dont ever roll over and play dead. I'm 38 years old and just getting my second wind of childhood. Play safe and smart and you can do whatever you want. Edit: just read that and it sounds like I have a death wish or somethin... |

Thanks fellas, I needed to hear all that was said. I honestly think that if I listened to my doctors advice I will become fat and lazy... I will throw the leatt brace out there and see what he says about it. I have plenty of time to decide what is best. I appreciate all the help. |

I would get the brace. Then when you are ready and all heald up in 18 months to ride try it. I would not sell anything until you have at least tried to ride again. Having some protection is better than none. I see lots of guys wearing them and they seem to like them. Or they would not use them. Just when you decide to get back into it. Use your head and good common sense and you should be just fine back on two wheels. |

I really dont want to sell my bikes, I have them both listed, the LXR is bringing attention, but the RMZ has yet to interest anyone. I'd rather sell it and keep the LXR!
