is the Lifan 138 the same as the 140?

I always hear everyone talk about the Lifan 140, not the 138 which I have. Is it the same thing?

And is the shift star fix available for mine? Everytime I try to upshift hard to 2nd or 3rd it'll go into neutral. Thanks.

No, the '138' is actually a 128cc motor, 54 x 55.5. The Lifan 140's are 54 x 59 motors.

wow that's a pretty big difference. why would they stamp it 138 and not 128?

The shift star will fix it. The 138 is not all that far from the 140 in power. I have both, and the 140 is stronger, but the 138 is no slouch.

at the time the 138 was the biggest motor available. are there bore kits and pistons available for these? it was cool at first, but now i need more power.

i have a 140 and it is maybe 3hp to the wheel more than my 125... ofcourse the 138 isnt going to be that far off.... the BVH head does make a difference..

The 140's I have seen use a 55mm piston.
