Lightened Flywheel

Anyone got any pics of their lightened flywheels. Gonna go for about half the weight of the std flywheel and need to know does all the weight come of the inside of the flywheel? BTW it's a stock OGM 140

left one is a China and the right is a Honda

Your bet bet is to remove up to 8oz anymore and it becomes a (Possible) spinning grenade

Heres a lightened Oil slinger also stock on left lightened on right

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Don't try to take weight off the inside of the flywheel. There are magnets in there. Don't try to take off too much either. 6-10 oz is a good range to shoot for. Make sure and leave the magnito on the middle too as shown above. The oil slinger is where you get your serious weight reduction

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Thanks guys, I took it to a guy today and he recommended just taking it of the outside whilst leaving the pick up point etc. It's going to look just like your pic OLDSCHOOL. Going to take the same amount of weight of the slinger as well and see how it goes

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Yeah you're right but I don't want to go all the way and get an IRK. I want to keep some of the 4 stroke feel, so i'll try it with the lightened flywheel and slinger.

Loctite and a 3/8 impact gun helps.Pay someone that has done one or you may have a problem. I have seen a few of these come apart and it's not pretty.

Re: Lightened Flywheel

I Personally run an IRK with the Kitaco weight and lightened slinger, it's a great balance between fast revs and inertia to prevent the ease of stalling with the IRK by itself.

Re: Lightened Flywheel

the lifan 140 has a pretty light flywheel already, its smaller than the normal china's, its the same size but a bit lighter than a honda flywheel. I have an ogm 140 with an IRK and lightened oil slinger, it smokes my stock 140, yes I have two identical bikes, one with irk one without.

Re: Lightened Flywheel

If you have an inner rotor with a weight and a lightened flywheel that weigh the same, the lightened flywheel will have more torque because it is larger in diameter, Right?

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Hold on there killer. . .

Assuming that an IRK with a weight and a lightened flywheel weigh the same, and the lightened flywheel has a larger diameter. . .

Then the rotational inertia of the flywheel will be more, and it will REQUIRE more torque to accelerate it to the same rotational velocity as the IRK from any given lower velocity.

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Yes, but the bike will feel like it has more torque with the lightened flywheel.

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Heres mine. I went with an alloy oil slinger unstead of lightening it.

Yep they will be going on the nice. Im sure the slinger probley transfers over to the 50. Im hoping I can get the motor alittle more revy this way.

The Kitaco rotor weight and IRK Rotor weigh in at 3.1 lbs or 49oz rotational mass when they're combined. Theres no way you can lighten a stock flywheel to 49oz, when you shave the average 5lb flywheel your only taking off 1/2lb (8oz) to 3/4lb (12oz) of weight, shave any more than that and you'll have a grenade!

On that topic, I just got my inner rotor weight today for my OGM 150. It took all of 10 minutes to install (and I'm slow with a wrench) and makes a very nice difference.

The bike still has a very quick revving character, but you can definitely feel more of a flywheel effect.

I wasn't totally sure the Reeg part would work for the chinese IRK, but it was a perfect fit. So now, I feel I have the best of both worlds. Adjustable timing, quick revs and still feels like a 4 stroke.
