I just did it today. KTM65 rim works just fine. I used a pro wheel rim. Looks to be pretty good quality, but mine has a high spot that can't be trued out. It is in the rim itself. If I had the bucks to spend, I would have gotten excel. If you want to change the rear, I am told that ktm65 works and I have that on order, but I haven't swapped it over yet. I ordered a KX65 rear and found out when it got here that kx65's have 28 spokes instead of the 32 I needed..Doh! |

Yepper. The spoke holes lined up perfectly. Angles were great. Spokes seemed a bit long, all the threads were covered before I got it to tension, but there seems to be still some adjustment room left. The rim wasn't a KTM brand. It was a pro wheel rim for ktm65. Same model rim is spec'ed for the KX60 if you look at the pro wheel part numbers. |

My wife get's back in town tomorrow with my digital camera. I can take a pic if anyone is interested. It is on the bike without the tire. I have to do a little final truing still. I got tired of it this evening. I haven't built wheels in a few years and I got tired of bending over working on it. Let me ask a question. The rim has a hole for a rim lock and I don't think I want one on the front. Where can I get a little rubber plug for that? Anyone know? |

Yep Kevin. Thanks for your help. I think the tension is pretty good. I don't know how much further I can tighten them before the I run out of threads on the spokes, but none of the spokes are near coming out of the top of the nipples. I used to run into that problem on bicycle wheels and if you didn't catch it you would have constant flats from the spoke end.

Run duct tape or electrical tape around the rim on top of the spoke nipples.

| Re: OGM/Pitster front rim I definitely will. I like the duct tape for that. But what I was saying is that none of the spokes poke through. But yes, I always run a rim strip. Even if the spokes don't poke through, the nipples will eventually wear holes in the tube without it.

sometimes you get little burrs from tightening the nipples, It took me a few tubes, I'm a slow learner.

That I don't know. I wish I did. Dougtrip was asking about trying to get a group buy going with buchanan spoke and wheel. They have great quality stuff, but I don't know if they have anything for us. Even though I think these are going to be fine, I would still be up for doing it if someone want's to research it. I'm not a small guy, so I would think if I ride this thing hard enough, I will want to replace the rims and spokes every year or so just as preventive maint. |

Here's the problem, my dad has 4 bikes here and 2 of them have spokes going one way and the other 2 have the spokes going the other way. The first one the spokes go right into the rim and the the second one you need special spokes for. It all depends on which hub you have. You should be able to shift the rim so it still works, but you might not have the parallel spokes at the valve stem then. Mine happened to line right up. ![]() Last edited by chiro972b; 04-28-2008 at 06:57 PM. |
