| Pit bike oil coolers
Ok, so i know some bikes come with an oil cooler on them. I just wanted to get some opinions about adding them to your bike! I have a 110 Thumpstar and ride it pretty hard, wondering if its really worth the money, also wondering if these put a lot of unwanted stress on the oil pump. Lastly i saw these on ebay and wondered if anybody has tried them out? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Piran...ayphotohosting |

Schofell84 I dont think you know anything about oil coolers, because the Stagg oil coolers look the same way, and they arent cheap.

well, your getting ripped off because thats a crappy oil cooler. the good (read: REAL) oil coolers look like mini radiators. use your head, if that design was better, why wouldn't they use it for radiators in cars and motorcycles?

they dont have to be a radiator type to be "real", but that does look crappy, it has 4 slots for cooling...yes Staggs and i think Takeagwa(spelling???), not sure if its take, but one of the big name brands, has one like that to, but count how many slots they have...way more.

There have been many threads about billet coolers vs. veined coolers. Let me just point out a few things here. The veined type coolers or radiators are built that way out of steel because it is much less expensive. These do allow for much more airflow though, and because of the steel they need much more air flow as steel does not dispearse heat as well as aluminum. However, no matter the material this design is the most efficient. The billet coolers DO work, because they are machined or cast from aluminum which distributes heat evenly and releases it well. Also because you are moving the oil away from the heat source, the transfer alone cools the oil, then you throw in some air flow and you have cooler oil. These type coolers have been used in VW dune buggies for many years with success. The ideal cooler would be aluminum with aluminum veins, but those are expensive and very fragile, so if you are looking for a good product the Staggs cooler is exactly the same as the Takegawa, and it holds a high volume of oil, AND it is very affordable. I hope that I helped. |

agreed, that cooler would defintaly work, but the veined type is far superior. try looking for 400ex ones, they go for cheap on ebay all the time.

If you are going to do it get something name brand for sure. The Staggs and trailbikes units are great for the money.

I Believe That The Trailbikes Cooler Has Been Discontinued. Not Sure Though. I Tried To Get One Of Those For A While But They Seem To Never Be In Stock. I Ended Up Buying A Staggs Oil Cooler From Outlaw Powersports. I Think The Biggest Thing To Consider Is Durability. The Radiator Types Like The Tb Is Great At Getting Rid Of Alot Of Heat, But Is Way More Fragile Than A Billet One. Even If The Billet Unit Only Works 3/4 As Good It Is Still Way Better Than Not Having One. Hope This Helped A Little

The coolers are extremely durable and we have not had one complaint as far as them getting damaged easily. However, if you crash bad enough, anything can break..... Trail Bikes

I just figure for a dirtbike that offers almost no protection for the cooler and is probably going to get rocks etc. thrown at it I'd rather not have radiator fins to get bashed. The old radiator on my truck wasn't pretty. And any oil cooler should have a major advantage over none.

we have them basic facts any oil cooler is better than none because it takes some of the heat off the engine staggs and tb are both nice units tb has more surface are for more heat transfer staggs has more bling and looks like the $300 takegawa unit
