| Porting ?
Can someone explain what porting is / does. Is it the expansion of the intake and outflow ports on the head? Which way are the ports expanded, vertically, horizontally? Are specialized tools, grinding stones required? Can you do it with a dremel at home? Can doing it incorrectly toast your head? Looking for advice from DIY and professionals.

If you have to ask what it is, I don't recommend doing it yourself.

| Re: Porting ? Quote: I did some research too. This link is good for people interested in basic porting, and the tools and method to do it. DIY - Basic Cylinder Head Porting -Standard Abrasives Motor Sports They even sell the kits. I contacted a local auto supply and they sell a small import / motorcycle kit too. I have a couple old bikes I am going to try it on, just cause I like to learn new stuff. It doesn't look like basic porting is rocket science. It's when the flow optimization is getting worked on that you need the experts and proper equipment. A good basic port and polish is probably good for any head though. | |
