I had the same problem with my Lifan 138. I opened the right sidecase and took the primary gears out and saw that the detent was out of the notch. The lever with the roller on it is held on with a press fit slip on ring on hte bolt that locates it in the case. Th ring was loose and the lever went sideways and out of the notch in the shift drum. I put it back in place and staked the shaft so it would not move. That fixed my problem. Don |

hmmm. i see. omg that requires sooo many tools that i dont have. Terry over at firepowerminis just basicly said the same thing. he said to take the right side cover off and then pull the clutch basket, which requires an impact driver (air powered drill?) and clutch nut tool. anyone know where i can get a clutch nut tool for cheap?

You might get lucky and just have a loose star, that you can tighten up with a thin wrench.

Be gentle... Lots of little parts in there, designed to be nudged around by noodle delivery girls Pull the cover before buying any tools. You might not need any, or it might not help.

Pull the ignition cover off and then above the sprocket is a rubber plug..inside is either a 10mm or allen head bolt that holds the shift drum from moving in and out...check that it is tight

UPDATE: ok i pulled the ign. cover and sure enough that bolt was loose enough that it would shake in and out a lil bit and so i tightened it and that seemed to have kept it from moving. i will test it as soon as my dad buys me oil (hopefully tomorrow) thanks for your help everyone

bad news... it ran perfect for a total of 2 hours =( i pulled the ign. cover again and the allen bolt was really effin loose and it was leaking oil.not much but a little bit and when i tried to tighten the bolt again it was tight but the whole bolt would move around and in and out and it doesnt wanna tighten up. now if i ride in first gear just cruisin like 5 mph on the road i get a false neutral but 2nd 3rd and 4th all work perfect. so whats up? any more guesses lol

It seems that your allen screw is stripped, any chance you dad would take you to the store to get a drill and tap set? It'd be an excuse for him to get a new tool. Blackwoodz told me the same thing and sure enough mine was loose in the same place, but unlike yours mine never came loose again. |

lol hes not a gear-head like me. im the first of the kind in my family lol. hes a computer programmer so yeah. but he might. how much do you think one would run me? because hes cheap and i have to pay for like everything except gas and oil. and i would have to pull the allen bolt completely out so what would happen inside the motor? would something drop down and fall in the case or what because im thinking that i will need to go ahead and pull the right sde cover anyways
