Tired 125 Upgrade.....What should I do?

I have been running my 4 year old Jailing 124cc in my X4 chassis for the last 6 months or so, but it's starting to smoke quite a bit and could use a replacement or refreshment. I don't race so spending $500-$1500 on a 160cc+ race motor isn't in the budget since I have to balance what I spend with my big bike in mind. From what I understand I can put a 160 kit or 146 kit on my lower end. Is this the end of it though? I have heard some say not to use those kits because its manditory to updgrade the clutch, head, etc. Is this true? Can I get away with buying the 146 big bore kit (cylinder, ring, piston, gaskets) and running everything else I have. I think I have the 26mm Mikunii carb by the way. I was just going to buy a piston & ring and run a quick hone through it, but I would like a bit more to push that larger X4 chassis. Any other suggestions? setups? offers?

I have included a pic of my motor so anyone can confirm if the big bore kits would even fit my motor. Not sure about the 13mm wrist pin.

Fresh, new motor, 140cc, with the better big-valve head, for less than upgrading yours:

Thats a 22mm Mikuni knockoff carb you posted up........I'd go with the YX 140 or the DTE-5 YX150 with a good 26-28mm carb.

Yea that's not the carb on it. I upgraded to a 26mm mikuni, but the more I think about it the more those YX motors sound good. I really can't say anything bad about my PCC motor however. It has been pounded for the last 4 years with no problems...just change the oil frequently. Thanks for the info.

Anyone know where I can get a top end kit (piston, rings, gaskets) to freshin up this Jailing 124? I think I am going to drop that in a roller I have together for my girlfriend.

Tbolt, or Staggs should be able to help you out, Terry at Firepower too, Just buy the 140 or 150 from him and he can get you the other parts you need to upgrade the jailing.

Re: Tired 125 Upgrade.....What should I do?

Awesome...so for some side-by-side comparison how do, lets use 140cc motors for example, these manufactures all compare: GPX, Pirahna, YX, EVOS, G2, Daytona? I think there are bottom ends mixed with bikes mixed with manufacturers in that list. It seems there is a combination of whats listed (Pirahna YX, EVOS/YX), but it does get confusing so someone to explain them would help.

I would assume all these motors fit CRF50 mounts, but use KLX style exhaust?

So the Pitster X4 then has CRF50 motor mounts, but a KLX110 style plastics, neck length, gas tank, exhaust fitment?

I am getting there...I appreciate you knowledgable guys helping me to understand so I can satisfy this chop shop attitude of mine. I could have just bought a new stock X4, but that would be no fun. To me its more entertaining to build it rather than buy it.

$140 gets you a complete, new 140cc top end. Aluminum cylinder, big valve head, gaskets, ready to bolt on. I have a 125/146 Jailing with a BVH that's been running strong for four years. John Adams runs a similar combo. Hold up awesome. You can add a $55 1-piece aluminum sling for some extra zing., too.
