YX160 Slipping and Catching -- Transmissions Dogs????

I have some funnies (well not so funny) going on when I accelerate in first and sometimes in 4th. It feels like something is binding and getting free or the dogs in the tranny going out and back in gear.

Does this sound reasonable?

How much side play is acceptable in the shift drum?

Do Honda shims fit?

Where can I get gaskets and shims?

Any other theories?

Don

Thanks for the start.

I pulled the side cover and was I surprised.

There is NO Centrifugal oil filter and never was.

The case has a boss that extends to the crank to oil it.

Mine is .022 inches which I would guess is OK.

I think my problem was a VERY loose rear chain.
