Smile Fox Float MXR

Hay everyone. First posting by a TTR50 dad here. Just got an 09 for my son who just turned 7 (42lbs). He is new to the dirt and loving every minute of it! Surprisingly, my wife is also smitten with the little TTR (this is gold when a wife loves a new power toy) and has been spotted cruising around the pits whenever the bike sits longer than 30 seconds. My problem is this bike is, of course, sprung for a small rider and lets just say that my wife... well, she weighs more. I really want to encourage her to ride and then move her up to a Pit Bike. I noticed that Fox makes an air shock that can be easily adjusted for bigger riders. If so, this would allow my wife to cruise around a bit on the TTR without committing to a crazy fixed spring rate that would toss Zack. SO, Does anyone have the Fox Float MXR on their TTR50? Does it require any modifications and (very important) is it easy to get to and adjust? Does it change the stock geometry of the bike? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Fox Float MXR

welcome to PM!
I own a fox float, and i LOVE it. It is one of the most adjustable and easy shocks on the market, just read the instructions and there you go.. Also holds up very good on the bigger jumps ;]

x2 on the fox float but it will lift the rear a bit so you may need to change the fork springs to help even out your ride

Re: Fox Float MXR

Thanks Guys! That is good news. It sounds like a great way of opening the door to alot $$$ more suspension mods. But the Float sounds like a very good place to start. Here is a TOTAL rookie question. I noticed that alot of the aftermarket swingarms are longer. Is this how they increase rear wheel travel or is it the length of the shock or both? Sorry about the basic question but I am new to Mini's and the mods.

I have the Float on my daughters bike and one on my wife's bike and they are the most adjustable shock you can buy

Re: Fox Float MXR

The shock will give you a little more travel. The longer swing arms give you more stability as it extends the wheel base.

My son just started riding his 50 on his own now that he finally grew some legs.

I am now building one to ride with him.

Pretty exciting when your kids start doing what you have been doing all your life.

Ya! It is very exciting plus my wife wants to ride to!!! I am in the same boat... wanting to get a pit bike together for her and I to ride with Zack. Kaili, our daughter (5) is already a terror on her BMX bike. I will be keeping my fingers crossed. Too funny about growing some legs... it is so true!

I am new to this Forum but will try to upload a pic of Zacks "Big Day" getting to ride his TTR for the first time. It was at MileStone MX, Riverside, CA.

I am new here also. Just came here looking for some info and never left.

Good info and not much drama.

Great site with parts popping up daily.

Re: Fox Float MXR

OK so thanks to the advice I am in the market for a Fox Float MXR. BUT, Fox claims (just got off the phone with them) that they DO NOT make a specific application for the TTR50!? I have three different part numbers that online vendors say "will fit" the TTR50. PN 997-23-000, 997-23-004 and 640-HXR-5201. The 997-23-004 is what Fox claims is for the CRF50 and has the same eye to eye length as the TTR. Which one is right for the TTR50???
