| GDay!
GDay Everyone! I bought my son a 2008 TTR50 at christmas time and he's nearing the 30hours to the first service, and I have a couple of questions. He's an OK rider, he's more interested in following trails with me rather than jumping, which I am hoping lasts as long as possible Also he just cant seem to click the gears up, he just cant get it. Meaning pottering around in second is all he really does, which cant be good for the motor. Well it is not like he sits on the rpm limiter, he realises when he gets there and backs off, so it is not as damaging aas it sounds, and third is a bit high for starting from a stop from. Now on my mates thumper, he welded on a bit of metal on the other side of his sifter, meaning he can shift up and down by pressing down on either side. Is there an aftermarket shifter I can buy for the TTR that is like that? Or just invest in some foot wieghts? Thanks in advance! Cy |

Yeah that is the big problem is that the foot peg and the kick stand are in the way, but I wonder if I bent the back one out a bit, might grab it and give it a go anyway, thank you very much! I searched for hours yesterday but couldnt find anything.

OK Well top points for my local Yamaha dealer, I went in yesterday as they had a special on childrens riding gear and ended up talking with one of the guys there and he suggested moving the shifter up slightly. So after getting home I tried it and my son still couldnt quite get it into gear, so I tried moving it so that it is pointing slightly down and hey presto, he now can do his own gear changes Also I think a bit of the problem is that with his boot off, his whole foot, from tip of toe to back of heel fit between the peg and the shifter, so guess he needs to grow a tiny bit, that will help too Might look at replacing the spring on the rear suspension too, that will make the bike a bit higher and easier to pickup i reckon, but later after it comes out of warranty.
