Starting off in 3rd

My son just got his TTR50 ..he moved up from a PW50 and isn't used to shifting gears yet ..it's actually VERY difficult for him to do it. Will starting off in 3rd hurt the bike??

I plan on working with him "nonstop" until he learns/gets the skill, but I don't want him to get tired of trying and want to move back down to the PW

Re: Starting off in 3rd

It is just more stress on the engine, start him out in maybe, second. Tell him not to go too fast and don't stop and start up alot.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've put my 50 through worse things and nothing has ever broken in the motor or tranny.

Re: Starting off in 3rd

Yeah cant see it hurting it. And he is a kid, so there wont be heaps of Weight on the bike.

Just get him learning quick. PW50s are deadly, seen heaps of kids get stuck in Auto world, where everything is so Easy! Hard one to get out of........keep working on it.
