| Cartwrights Conversion XR80 / CR80
I might be taking this thing in on trade tomorrow. Just can't decide if I want to trade my 78 xr for it or not. |

Well if I was to sell my 78 XR I would ask about $750 for it. Is this bike worth that much? |

My dads been using the 78 XR as a pitbike and he seems to want to do it as well. It's not like I don't have 2 more XR 75's so I guess I will do it.

I'm not familiar with the conversion, but it's cool. I had a few mid-80's CR's. I even got around pretty good back then

| Re: Cartwrights Conversion XR80 / CR80 Cartwright's Conversions I don't think they are around anymore though. The RM's they built for Guy Cooper (Guy lives about 4 miles from me) were freaking awesome. |

That is awesome! I'd get it, restore it and make it a replica of a Bailey, O'Mara, Hannah or Lechien works Honda RC from the 80's.

| Re: Cartwrights Conversion XR80 / CR80 ![]() Looks to me like it has a solid plate coming from the back of the frame, going up under the engine and possibly mounting at the foot peg holes? I'm digging the Bailey replica idea. Last edited by Jthomas7; 09-03-2009 at 06:38 PM. |

Just got done riding it, It's about the most fun bike I've ever ridden. BUT! NEED MORE POWER! It has a 1983 XR80 engine in it. I have a 1988 XR100 cylinder here. Everything I think I know about XR's says I can throw this thing on there? |

My Mood: | Re: Cartwrights Conversion XR80 / CR80 Throw in a 120 kit haha. The power is a complete night and day difference. My crf100 rips with the BBR 120 kit in it.

Nope! A'nt gun'a work! Search for a 100 bottom end, Big bore kits are aviable for the 100, from mild (10hp) to wild! (+18hp.) Or hit up FIREPOWER! For a 120 kit for your 80 engine. | |

I have a 100 bottom end as well, will the 80 head fit? I just don't have the 100 head. |

Yup! But the intake and exhaust ports are smaller on the 80, compared to the 100... You will need the upper timing chain sprocket (30t) from a 100. The 80's and the 100's use different timing sprocket combinations. Or pick up a Takegawa or Kitaco BBK with a Superhead/SE kit. |

Not digging my air filter set up as it just has a pod. The air boot is set to go on the other side of the bike. Fire suggested just flipping the boot but after looking at it the shock is set up off center making that not an option. I'm thinking I need to fab up an intake boot that sticks the carb to the left instead of to the right so I can get a boot on it.

100 parts won't work, without LOTS of parts. Jug's taller, rod's longer. Cam chain, studs, crank, upper sprocket, oil hole needs moved. Been down that road... The 80 crank is a bunch lighter than the 100, trans ratios are tighter. Ports seem the same size(?) but the 100 chamber is bigger. Gotta watch quench with domed Wiseco's. I have a freshly sleeved 58mm XR80 jug here, with matching center-domed slug, bored full-oil cases, and will have the re-rodded crank done next week. 49% displacement increase will help a ton

anyone know the length of the newer CR 80 / 85 shocks? this one is 14 inch center to center with 10mm holes. Shock is pretty much blown and I'm thinking about putting a more modern shock. I can get a used one cheaper than what I can get this one rebuilt for. |
